English Diary, 10/9-07
The best thing about being in port is that you finally get some time tpend on either sleeping, doing some schoolwork, or just relaxing. That=92hat I spend my first wonderful morning hours on today. Myself. After lunce went to the Centrum. Shopping, some sightseeing and project work was ohe schedule, and the hours just flew away. Way to early we had to go baco the boat for dinner, but on the way back we got time to visit thorwegian seamanschurch where I bought some Norwegian browncheese and rehe newspapers. Strange and a bit scary how much of the local news you mishen we are sailing downwards Europe.
One thing that I really like about this city is that it is divided into twarts. To get to the centrum we have been told to walk either down a riverr along a main street. In the middle is an area called the Russian areand there we are not allowed to walk. We therefore have to choose what to defore we leave the boat. If you go to the left, you come to the oldesrea, and to the right is the more modern area. I like best the oldest areith many cosy small restaurants, snug and shabby second-hand shops antreet after streets with old houses from the 15th century. This is thlace where you can just suck in as much culture as possible, and in thiddle is a majestic big church. We spend our time on the other side todayhe modern part of Antwerp with all the big international shops like Zarnd H&M. Here is also the first high tower on the European continent.
After dinner a friend of me that I met this summer on a jamboree came tisit me. First he got a guided tour on board, afterwards he showed us somice parts of Antwerp. It was nice to have someone on our age to guide und show us the places that we would like to see and visit. The traditionauides are often a bit to old and boring. We sat down on a caf=E9 and had oda, asked him what we could about our projects (this is a reallmbarrassing thing, all guests is always bombarded with questions from alhe different project groups), before we had to go back. It was very nice tee him again, and a shame that the visit became so short, but we had to go bed early. Tomorrow they are calling us early before we are going tr=FCssel the whole day.
